Crime Branch Cracks Balianta Murder, Main Accused in Custody

Bhubaneswar, May 25: In a major breakthrough, the Odisha Police Crime Branch has arrested Binod Kumar Behera, the prime accused in the sensational Balianta murder case.

Behera, 48, a resident of Satya Nagar in Bhubaneswar, was apprehended in Indupur, Kendrapara district.

The case involves the brutal killing of Soumya Ranjan Swain, a GRP constable, in the Bhingarpur‑Kaja area on May 7, 2026.

Following an extensive investigation, police confirmed Behera’s direct involvement in the assault.

With this arrest, the total number of accused persons detained in connection with the case has risen to 16.

The Crime Branch continues its efforts to trace and apprehend other individuals linked to the incident.

Authorities have registered the case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, relating to murder and associated offences.
