NHRC Deepens Probe into Balianta Mob Case

Bhubaneswar, June 3: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has intensified its probe into the Balianta mob violence case that claimed the life of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain.

A two‑member NHRC team recorded statements from the complainant and ambulance driver Sugyan Mallick on Tuesday.

Mallick revealed that his 108 ambulance team received a call at 11:06 a.m. regarding an accident at Ramchandrapur, Balianta.

They reached the spot at 11:34 a.m., but the victim had already been shifted in a private vehicle.

The team then returned to Adaspur Community Health Centre.

The NHRC team, which arrived in Odisha on June 1, will continue its field investigation until June 6.

The probe focuses on the sequence of violence, the circumstances surrounding Swain’s death, and allegations of police negligence before and after the incident.

This investigation is seen as a crucial step toward establishing accountability and ensuring justice in the high‑profile case.
