Millet Mission: Odisha Reviews MSP Procurement Plans to Empower Farmers

The Government of Odisha has intensified its efforts to strengthen the Millet Mission under the Shree Anna Abhiyan, reviewing procurement and distribution strategies to ensure maximum farmer participation.

At a high‑level meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, senior officials from the Odisha State Supply Corporation, Agriculture Department, Food Corporation of India, and Odisha Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation discussed measures to streamline procurement and prevent exploitation by unscrupulous traders.

District Collectors have been instructed to remain vigilant during the procurement drive.

The state aims to distribute procured millet through welfare schemes and supply reserves to the Food Corporation of India.

Last year, Odisha procured 758,000 quintals of millet, with over 100,000 quintals exported for the first time to Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Dr Padhee emphasised the government’s commitment to promoting millet as a climate‑resilient grain, reinforcing food security and sustainable agriculture in the face of climate change.
