Midnight Crackdown in Balangir: Illegal Sand Transport Busted
Balangir -17.05.2026- In a major crackdown on illegal sand and minor mineral transport, the Balangir district administration and police jointly carried out a “Midnight Operation” across multiple sand ghats.
Acting on complaints of illegal transportation, the administration conducted a surprise raid at Balighat, led by the Collector, during which several trucks were seized. The SP has intensified night patrolling in the area to curb such activities.
District Collector Gaurav Shivaji Isalwar and SP Abhilash G. led surprise raids in Puintala, Agalpur, Loisingha, and Sadar police station areas, seizing 12 Hyvas, 2 tractors, and 2 JCB machines used for sand lifting. Acting on the SP’s directives, Titilagarh and Saintala police also conducted raids, confiscating 4 additional Hyvas.
A total of 18 persons were detained across different police stations. Cases were registered, and 41 notices were later served before their release. Verification of documents of the seized vehicles and machinery is underway. The operation, which began around 11 PM on Friday and continued till 5 AM on Saturday, was carried out with the participation of SDPO Saroj Upadhyay, local police officers, and force personnel.

Sadar PS (Suktel river ghats – Garjan, Kutumdola, Chandanbhati): 2 Hyvas and 2 tractors seized.
Puintala PS (Kuithipali, Lukapada, Bileisarda, Pipirda): 5 Hyvas and 1 JCB seized.Agalpur PS (Anganadi ghat): 3 Hyvas seized.
Loisingha PS (Sanfasara ghat): 2 Hyvas and 1 JCB seized.Titilagarh PS (Mahada ghat): 3 Hyvas seized under the supervision of SDPO Yashobanta Pradhani and IIC Manoj Munda.
Saintala PS (Kuikeda ghat): 1 Hyva seized; the driver was detained under IIC Khagapati Biswal.
The administration has warned that vehicles engaged in illegal mineral transport will be confiscated, and legal action will be taken against both owners and drivers. Local police have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance, particularly during night hours.
