Majhi Govt Resolves 40‑Year Dispute with ₹75 Cr Rehab Plan
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled a Rs 75.60 crore rehabilitation package for 1,371 displaced families in Golabandha, Ganjam district, ending a four-decade-long dispute.
Under the scheme, each family will receive a one‑time compensation of Rs 5 lakh through Direct Benefit Transfer, amounting to Rs 68.55 crore.
Additionally, Rs 4.25 crore has been earmarked to complete 998 unfinished houses and construct 10 new ones, while Rs 2.80 crore will fund infrastructure in the Kirtipur colony, including roads, street lights, an anganwadi centre, market complex, toilets, cyclone shelter, and beach‑leveling for fishing boats.
The CM also addressed rehabilitation of families displaced by the Cheligada irrigation project.
Of the 112 affected families, 96 have already received land pattas, with the remainder to follow.
Each family will be allotted 10 decimals of homestead land and 2 acres of farmland.
Once completed next year, the project will irrigate over 6,000 hectares in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
Majhi highlighted Odisha’s broader development push, including Rs 21,500 crore.
The Gopalpur industrial park is expected to attract investments exceeding Rs 40,000 crore and generate 18,000 jobs.
The CM projected the creation of 5 lakh jobs in Odisha over the next two years, urging youth to upskill for emerging opportunities.
Ministers present emphasised speedy land distribution, industrial growth, and marine livelihood support.
