Kendrapada Woman Killed in Crocodile Attack Amid Floods

Kendrapada district witnessed a tragic incident on Sunday when a 46‑year‑old woman, Suchitra Das of Damdarpatana village, was dragged away by a crocodile while bathing in floodwaters.

The incident occurred in Alapua panchayat, where overflowing rivers have inundated the area for over a week.

Fire Services personnel from Pattamundai launched a search operation, but her body had not been recovered at the time of reporting.

Local residents expressed anger and fear, alleging repeated threats from crocodiles and wild boars in the flood‑hit region.

They criticised the Forest Department for failing to conduct promised awareness campaigns and preventive measures, despite earlier assurances from the district Collector.

Villagers say they feel neglected and vulnerable, as official promises of awareness drives remain unfulfilled.
