Mahanadi Riverfront Development Project in Cuttack Reviewed, Fast-Track Execution Ordered
Cuttack, Odisha: Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krishna Chandra Mahapatra has reviewed the ambitious Mahanadi Riverfront Development Project and directed officials to fast-track its execution.
The Rs 150 crore project, spread across 426 acres, aims to transform the riverfront into a vibrant cultural, recreational, and tourism hub.
Fully funded in the State Budget 2025–26, the initiative is being executed by the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) through open tendering.
Project Phases
- Phase I: A 3.2 km promenade from Balijatra Ground to Maritime Museum, pedestrian pathways, and utility networks.
- Phase II: Underground utility systems, pathways, and large-scale tree plantation with a sustainability focus.
- Phase III: Recreational and cultural facilities, including Cuttack Haat, Heritage Village, food truck zones, playgrounds, sensory park, fitness areas, thematic gardens, and an open-air Maritime Museum.
During the review meeting, Dr Mahapatra emphasised the need for time-bound clearances, tendering, and preparatory works.
CDA Vice-Chairperson Ms Kirandeep Kaur Sahota presented the detailed plan, with senior officials from the Housing & Urban Development Department and CDA in attendance.
The project is expected to redefine Cuttack’s urban landscape, offering residents and tourists a modern, sustainable riverfront experience.
