Low Pressure Over Bengal to Impact North Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a well‑marked low‑pressure area continues to persist over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions of north coastal Odisha, Jharkhand, and the northwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD’s morning bulletin, the system is accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height.

Meteorologists predict that the system will move west‑northwestwards across north Odisha and Jharkhand within the next 48 hours.

Heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of northern Odisha, raising concerns about potential flooding in low‑lying areas.

Authorities are closely monitoring river levels and advising residents to remain alert.

This development comes amid a series of weather disturbances in the region, with Mayurbhanj and Balasore already witnessing intense rainfall in recent days.

The IMD has urged state administrations to prepare for possible waterlogging, crop damage, and disruptions in transport.
