Jharsuguda Encounter: Bunty Prasad Injured in Police Shootout Near Amadarha Forest
Jharsuguda: A notorious criminal identified as Bunty Prasad sustained a bullet injury during a police encounter near Amadarha forest under the Orient police station limits in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Monday morning.
According to police sources, a special team launched a combing operation after receiving intelligence inputs about Bunty Prasad’s presence in the forest area.
During the operation, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police personnel in an attempt to evade arrest.
The police team retaliated in self-defence, resulting in Bunty Prasad sustaining a gunshot injury to his left leg.
He was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody before being shifted to Khaliakani Community Health Centre for treatment.
Police officials said the operation was carried out in connection with a criminal case registered at Orient Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Authorities also recovered illegal firearms from the encounter site.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police (SP) Gundala Reddy Raghavendra stated that the district police maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards organised crime and illegal arms trafficking.
He emphasised that the police acted after coming under fire from the accused.
Investigators are now probing Bunty Prasad’s alleged criminal network and possible links to illegal arms suppliers operating in the region.
Police records indicate that Bunty Prasad is involved in as many as 17 criminal cases across Jharsuguda, Brajrajnagar, and Orient police station jurisdictions.
The cases reportedly include charges related to attempted murder, organised crime, criminal conspiracy, and illegal arms dealings.
Following the encounter, security and surveillance have been intensified across sensitive locations in the Brajrajnagar industrial belt as police continue efforts to curb organised criminal activities in the district.
