Jagatsinghpur Student Electrocuted While Lowering National Flag on Republic Day

Jagatsinghpur, Odisha – A Class 10 student lost his life in a shocking accident while participating in Republic Day celebrations at a private coaching centre in Kujang.

The victim, identified as Om Prakash Dwivedi (15), was lowering the national flag when the metal pipe used for hoisting came into contact with an overhead electric wire.

He was immediately electrocuted and rushed to Kujang Medical, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Om Prakash, originally from Teragaon village in Kendrapara district, was staying with his uncle in Kujang to pursue his studies.

He was enrolled at Kujang BB High School and also attended tuition at the coaching centre.

Following the incident, Kujang police detained the coaching centre owner, Ashwini Kumar Nanda, for questioning.

The tragedy has sparked widespread concern over safety measures during flag hoisting ceremonies, especially in institutions where electrical hazards are present.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for strict safety protocols during national celebrations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
