Odisha Govt Pushes Complex Fertilisers Amid DAP & Urea Shortage

The Odisha Government has directed all district administrations to promote complex fertilisers as substitutes for Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Ammonium Sulphate as alternatives to Urea.

The move aims to ensure balanced nutrient management and reduce dependence on traditional fertilisers amid supply constraints.

Commissioner‑cum‑Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, IAS, informed District Collectors that the Government of India will supply Ammonium Sulphate (20.5% Nitrogen, 23% Sulphur) to replace Urea and address sulphur deficiency in soils.

The Centre has also emphasised the use of complex fertilisers instead of DAP due to reduced availability this year.

District‑level MARKFED personnel have been instructed to place indents for fertilisers based on allocations.

The directive, marked “most urgent,” has been circulated to Chief District Agriculture Officers and the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.

The initiative aligns with Odisha’s broader push for soil health and sustainable farming practices, ensuring farmers access nutrient‑balanced alternatives despite national supply chain challenges.
