IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in North Odisha Districts from September 9

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Watch’ alert for north Odisha, forecasting isolated heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Kendujhar districts between September 9 and 10.

According to IMD Bhubaneswar Centre, the state recorded a sharp rainfall deficit in the past 24 hours, with only 1.4 mm against the normal 9.2 mm — an 85% deviation.

The highest rainfall was reported at Borigumma in Koraput (36 mm), followed by Sundargarh (20.6 mm) and Bhubaneswar (17.6 mm).

Temperature readings showed Puri at 34.8°C, the highest in the state, while Boudh recorded the lowest at 19°C. Bhubaneswar and Kataka also reported maximums above 34°C.

The IMD has advised residents in north Odisha to remain cautious and take safety measures during thunderstorms and heavy showers.
