BJD Slams Odisha Govt Over “Bias” in Jajpur Flood Relief
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused the BJP-led Odisha government of showing bias in distributing flood relief in Jajpur district.
Senior BJD leaders alleged that relief materials were handed out selectively by local BJP leaders instead of the district administration, leaving opposition-held constituencies neglected.
Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik criticised the government for failing to provide adequate dry rations, cattle feed, and essentials even after 26 days of waterlogging.
She claimed that the Chief Minister’s visit was more symbolic than substantive, with opposition MLAs being sidelined when they raised concerns.
Bari MLA Biswa Ranjan Mallick noted that Bari, the worst-hit area, was skipped during official tours, while relief trucks were diverted for distribution by BJP leaders.
Crop-loss assessments for farmers remain incomplete, further deepening the crisis.
Jajpur MLA Sujata Sahu highlighted that Dasrathpur was inundated six times in 36 days, leaving over 53,000 people stranded without proper evacuation or shelter.
The BJD described the government’s approach as a “step-motherly policy” toward constituencies represented by opposition MLAs.
