Hirakud Reservoir Hits 629.39 Ft; Odisha Districts Issue Flood Alerts
Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud reservoir recorded a water level of 629.39 feet at 10 am today, prompting authorities to release water through 28 gates.
The inflow stood at 6,48,539 cusecs, while outflow was measured at 4,96,069 cusecs.
Floodwaters have already breached embankments in Sukhasoda, inundating villages and farmland.
At Mundali barrage, the discharge reached 7,60,262 cusecs at 9 am, with levels rising by nearly 6,000 cusecs per hour, intensifying flood risks downstream.
District administrations in Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapada have issued alerts for low‑lying areas including Banki, Badamba, Athagada, Kanas, Nimapada, Gop, Erasama, Balikuda, Patkura, and Derabish.
Meanwhile, the Jalaput reservoir in Koraput began its first floodwater discharge of the season, opening two gates to release 6,000 cusecs.
With the water level at 2,747.05 feet against a full capacity of 2,750 feet, alerts have been sounded for villages along the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha border.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant.
