Hirakud Dam Opens 13 Gates to Release Floodwater

Bhubaneswar: Authorities at Hirakud Dam have opened 13 sluice gates to discharge excess water into the Mahanadi River system.

Of these, nine gates are on the left spillway and four gates on the right.

The reservoir currently holds water at 618.71 feet, with an inflow of 90,731 cusecs and an outflow of 2,38,508 cusecs.

Officials emphasised that the release is being carefully regulated to balance reservoir safety with downstream river conditions.

Flood management protocols are in place, and the situation is under close monitoring to ensure controlled discharge and minimise risk to communities along the river.
