Heavy Rainfall to Persist in Odisha as IMD Issues Orange Alert

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall across Odisha due to a prevailing low‑pressure system.

The showers, which began during the Rath Yatra period, are expected to last for at least two more days.

An Orange Warning has been issued for five districts — Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapada — where heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely.

A Yellow Warning has been sounded for 17 districts, including Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.

These areas may experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain at isolated places.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid sheltering under trees or entering waterlogged areas during storms.

District administrations are on alert to tackle possible flooding, waterlogging, and travel disruptions.
