Hirakud Dam Opens 10 Gates Amid Heavy Rainfall
Bhubaneswar, July 22: Authorities at Hirakud Dam opened 10 gates on Tuesday morning following continuous rainfall in the Mahanadi basin.
At 6 AM, the reservoir level stood at 613.33 feet, with an inflow of 2,10,429 cusecs/sec and an outflow of 1,86,354 cusecs/sec through seven gates on the left spillway and three on the right.
The released water has reached Mundali Barrage in Cuttack, where over 1 lakh cusecs are flowing downstream.
Officials assured that there is no flood threat at present, though monitoring continues as rainfall persists in the upper catchment areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several districts over the next two days due to an active low‑pressure system.
Residents along the Mahanadi river have been advised to stay alert and follow official updates, though no flood warning has been issued so far.
