Heatwave Forces School Closures in Nabarangpur from April 20

Nabarangpur, April 18: The Nabarangpur district administration has announced holidays for all schools, colleges, Anganwadi centres, and technical institutions starting April 20 until further orders, in response to the ongoing heatwave crisis.

Temperatures across Western Odisha have soared above 40°C, raising serious concerns about student safety. District Collector directed strict closure of institutions, while ensuring that scheduled examinations will continue, with timings shifted to morning hours to avoid peak heat.

Heads of institutions have been instructed to provide adequate drinking water, shaded areas, and hydration points for students and staff. The administration emphasized strict compliance with these safety measures to prevent heat‑related illnesses.

Similar closures have been announced in neighbouring districts, highlighting the growing urgency of heatwave preparedness and child welfare in Odisha.
