Harichandan Pushes Agriculture Growth in Chilika

Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan chaired a review meeting in Bhubaneswar to strengthen agriculture, horticulture, and soil conservation initiatives in the Chilika Assembly constituency.

The minister emphasised coconut cultivation in coastal areas, promotion of Banpur moong for its unique taste, and expansion of the Shree Anna scheme.

He also highlighted the need for cold storage facilities, rainwater harvesting, and soil conservation measures.

Harichandan urged officials to adopt a coordinated model to boost productivity, calling for studies on soil and climate to identify high‑yield crops such as paddy, millets, fruits, and vegetables.

Organic farming, floriculture, mushroom cultivation, and fodder production were identified as priority areas.

District Agriculture Officer Manoranjan Mishra, Horticulture Deputy Director Shreya Saswati, and Soil Conservation Project Director Srushti Nanda presented updates on ongoing programs, training camps, and subsidy schemes.

The meeting concluded with a consensus to expand agriculture and horticulture initiatives, ensuring effective delivery of state and central schemes to farmers, aligned with the vision of a “developed Odisha.”
