UTP Dies in Paralakhemundi Jail, Family Blames Negligence
Paralakhemundi (Gajapati): An under-trial prisoner (UTP), Runa Bada Rait of Jirang village, died in the Paralakhemundi Sub-Jail in the early hours of Sunday.
He had been arrested on August 7 in connection with a POCSO case and lodged in judicial custody.
Family members, who met him on September 1, claimed he was in good health.
They were later informed by police that he had died suddenly at 3 AM.
Alleging negligence by jail authorities, the family has refused to accept the body until compensation and rehabilitation are provided.
The incident has sparked tension in the area, with villagers demanding accountability.
The exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
