Flood Fear Escalates as Bhargavi River Erosion Threatens Pipili and Nimapada

PURI: Severe erosion along the Bhargavi River has sparked panic among residents of Pipili and Nimapada in Puri district.

In Nuasasan Nuasahi near Pipili, more than 200 feet of riverbank has collapsed near the Mining Padhi area, while the opposite bank has lost nearly 100 feet of soil directly into the river.

Similar incidents have been reported in Samarei under Nimapada block, raising fears of embankment breaches.

Villagers say agricultural land and homesteads are at risk, with continuous land loss threatening livelihoods.

Local residents have urged the Irrigation Department to take immediate steps to reinforce vulnerable banks and prevent further damage.

Without urgent intervention, the erosion could trigger flooding and displacement in the region.
