Elephant Attack Claims Life of Kendujhar Villager

Kendujhar, Odisha: A tragic incident unfolded near Soyabali forest road under Barabil Range, Guali Section, when a 55‑year‑old villager, Chintamani Patra, was fatally attacked by a wild elephant.

Patra was riding his TVS Luna to the Kashia plant around 7:15 AM when the elephant suddenly emerged from the forest, dragged him, and trampled him to death.

Local youth Rautu Munda, who was jogging nearby, attempted to intervene but was chased by the elephant and narrowly escaped.

Passers‑by rushed Patra to Barabil hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Forest officials and police reached the site soon after and have begun an investigation.

The incident highlights the growing human–wildlife conflict in Odisha’s forest‑adjacent regions, where elephant movement frequently endangers villagers.
