Elderly man arrested for rape of minor in Sonepur
Sonepur, Odisha: An elderly man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Ramapur police limits under Dunguripali block.
The accused, identified as Rupa Mahananda, reportedly entered the girl’s house when she was alone, locked the door, and assaulted her under the pretext of giving medicine.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Ramapur police registered a case and initiated an investigation with assistance from a scientific team from Balangir.
The accused was subjected to medical examination and produced before the Sonepur POCSO Court, where his bail plea was rejected. He has since been remanded to judicial custody in Sonepur jail.
The incident has triggered outrage among villagers and activists, who are demanding strict punishment.
The case highlights the vulnerability of minors in rural areas and underscores the urgent need for vigilance and community awareness to prevent such crimes.
