Devotee Dies During Puri Rath Yatra 2026, Naveen Patnaik Expresses Grief

A tragic incident occurred during the Rath Yatra 2026 in Puri, where one devotee reportedly lost their life, and several others sustained injuries amid the heavy crowd on Bada Danda.

Expressing deep sorrow, BJD president and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.

He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured.

Patnaik urged the Odisha government to strengthen crowd management measures and remain vigilant to prevent similar mishaps in the future.

He emphasised that the safety and convenience of lakhs of devotees attending the annual festival must be prioritised.

He further assured that BJD workers would cooperate with authorities and extend support to relief efforts during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, police and emergency teams have been deployed across Puri, and officials are expected to issue a detailed statement after assessing the situation.
