Cyclonic Circulation Likely Over Bay of Bengal, Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of an upper‑air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha between July 10–16, 2026.

Under its influence, a fresh low‑pressure system is expected to develop between July 17–23, 2026, bringing widespread rainfall across Odisha.

Earlier this month, a depression triggered by a low‑pressure system caused heavy downpours, swelling rivers and creating flood‑like conditions in several districts.

Authorities are closely monitoring the new development, anticipating similar challenges of waterlogging and flooding.

Meteorologists highlight that the system will sustain monsoon activity in eastern India, offering relief from heat while raising concerns for flood management.

Farmers expect timely rains to support crop cycles, while disaster response teams prepare for potential emergencies.
