Brahmapur Police Bust IPL Betting Racket, Bookie Arrested
Brahmapur police have exposed a major IPL betting racket following a raid in Pandia Colony near Ankuli Over Bridge.
The operation led to the arrest of 29‑year‑old Ranjan Sahu of Lanjiapali Shiva Shakti Nagar.
During the raid, police seized Rs 66,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and a car.
Several bank accounts linked to the racket, containing lakhs of rupees, were frozen.
Investigators revealed that the accused was running the illegal operation by providing user IDs and passwords on platforms such as Sky Exchange and Bet‑365.
Authorities noted that many young people in Brahmapur have suffered heavy financial losses due to online betting.
A case (No. 240/26) has been registered, and the accused was produced in court.
Police confirmed that the crackdown follows repeated media reports highlighting the destructive impact of IPL betting on youth finances.
Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the kingpins behind the syndicate.
