BLO Suspension in Gajapati: Assistant Teacher Penalized for Electoral Duty Negligence

Gajapati, Odisha: An assistant teacher serving as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) has been suspended for negligence of duty during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.

District Election Officer and Collector Akshay Sunil Agrawal, IAS, ordered the suspension of Ramanuj Das under Section 32(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Das, assigned to Booth No. 110 in Kashinagar block under Paralakhemundi Assembly Constituency, failed to perform his responsibilities and remained absent without valid reason or prior permission.

His absence disrupted the voter list revision process, a critical step in ensuring electoral integrity.

As per suspension terms, Das cannot leave headquarters without prior approval and will receive subsistence allowance according to rules.

The action underscores the seriousness with which election authorities treat BLO responsibilities, given their direct impact on the democratic process.
