BJD Cries Foul After Satyabadi Block Chairperson’s Office Vandalised

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging a breakdown of law and order in Odisha after the office of Sunil Kumar Panda, Chairperson of Satyabadi Block, was reportedly vandalised inside the Block Development Office (BDO) premises in Puri district.

According to the BJD, a group of BJP workers allegedly entered the office and damaged furniture and other property following a controversy surrounding remarks attributed to Sunil Kumar Panda.

The remarks, which reportedly compared BJP workers to dogs, had gone viral on social media, triggering strong reactions from BJP supporters.

Condemning the incident, senior BJD leader Sanjay Kumar Das Burma accused the state government of failing to maintain law and order and alleged that no action had been taken against those involved in the vandalism.

He claimed that despite the incident taking place in a government office, police had neither registered a case nor made any arrests.

Leader of Opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik also expressed concern over the incident, describing it as an example of growing lawlessness in the state.

In a social media post, he questioned whether ruling party workers could vandalise government offices without facing consequences and said such incidents were tarnishing Odisha’s image.

The former Chief Minister further asserted that violence has no place in Odisha’s democratic and peaceful traditions and called for accountability in the matter.

Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar Panda and members of the block committee staged a sit-in protest outside the office, demanding strict action against those allegedly responsible.

The protesters also sought the arrest of local BJP MLA Om Prakash Mishra and others whom they accused of involvement in the incident.

The episode has intensified the political confrontation between the BJD and BJP in Odisha, with both parties expected to continue trading charges over the incident in the coming days.
