Waving Tricolour Is Not a Crime”: Sujata Rout Backs Gen Z, Supports Peaceful Protest

Bhubaneswar: Sujata Rout, a leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has reiterated her party’s support for youth-led movements, asserting that waving the national Tricolour is a democratic right and should never be considered a crime.

Addressing reporters, Sujata Rout said the BJD has consistently stood alongside the younger generation and remains committed to supporting peaceful and non-violent forms of protest.

“The BJD has always stood with Gen Z. I believe that waving or hoisting the Tricolour is not a crime in India.

Therefore, we strongly support any form of protest that is non-violent and peaceful,” she said.

Her remarks come amid growing discussions around youth-led demonstrations and civic participation across the country.

According to Rout, democratic expression and the right to peaceful assembly are fundamental values that must be protected.

The statement also reflects the regional party’s continued emphasis on constitutional rights, peaceful dissent, and greater engagement with younger generations.

By extending support to Gen Z voices, the BJD has positioned itself as an advocate for democratic participation and non-violent public expression.
