Amit Shah to Mediate Mahanadi Water Dispute on Oct 1

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over a crucial meeting on October 1, 2026, to address the long-standing Mahanadi River water-sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The meeting will bring together the Chief Ministers of both states, with the Central Water Commission (CWC) providing technical mediation.

The dispute, which has persisted for years, centres on upstream construction and water regulation in Chhattisgarh that Odisha claims has reduced downstream flow, affecting agriculture, industry, and ecology.

The upcoming dialogue is expected to explore a balanced formula that safeguards the interests of both states while ensuring sustainable river management.
