5-Year-Old Girl Dies, Parents Critically Burned in LPG Leak Fire in Odisha’s Jajpur
Jajpur: A five-year-old girl lost her life while her parents sustained critical burn injuries after a suspected LPG gas leak triggered a fire at their residence in Arabala village in Jajpur district on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 6:30 am when Tilottama Malik was preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
A suspected leak from the LPG gas pipe allegedly ignited, leading to a massive fire that quickly engulfed part of the house.
The victim, identified as Mamali Malik (5), suffered severe burn injuries in the blaze.
Family members and neighbours rushed her to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Her parents, Tilottama Malik (35) and Abhiram Malik (40), sustained critical burn injuries while trying to escape the fire.
Another family member, Uttam Malik (50), was also injured while attempting to control the flames and rescue the victims.
Local residents immediately informed emergency services and helped shift the injured to the hospital.
After receiving preliminary treatment at Dharmasala CHC, the injured were referred to the burn unit of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced medical care.
Fire service personnel and police from the Kotpur outpost reached the spot and secured the area.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident and determine whether any safety lapses or equipment malfunction led to the tragedy.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village as residents mourn the untimely death of the child.
