₹8,300 Cr Coastal Highway to Redefine Odisha’s Tourism & Trade
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has unveiled a Rs 8,300.79 crore coastal highway project spanning 160.18 km between Rameshwar and Paradeep.
Designed as a 4-lane access-controlled highway from Rameshwar to Konark and a 2-lane paved shoulder stretch from Konark to Paradeep, the corridor will allow speeds up to 100 km/h and cut travel time by nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Covering Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts, the project strengthens connectivity to Paradeep Port, Puri Railway Station, and the upcoming Puri Airport.
It links nine economic nodes and five logistics hubs under PM GatiShakti, boosting freight and passenger movement.
Beyond trade, the corridor integrates Odisha’s cultural and tourism assets, connecting Jagannath Temple, Konark Sun Temple, Ramchandi Temple, and eco‑tourism hotspots like Gahirmatha turtle nesting sites.
The highway is expected to spur local economies through hotels, homestays, restaurants, handicraft markets, and tourism‑based businesses, positioning Odisha as a hub of both heritage and modern infrastructure.
