Violence Erupts During Stage Drama in Puri, One Critically Injured

Puri, April 28: A cultural programme in Rengal village, Puri district, turned violent late Monday night when a group of around 15 individuals allegedly pelted stones at the stage during a drama performance.

The sudden attack created panic among the audience and performers.

Eyewitnesses reported that the group stormed the stage with sticks and objects, damaging sets and equipment.

Performers were allegedly assaulted, and valuables were looted in the chaos. The incident triggered a stampede‑like situation, leaving several injured.

One person sustained critical injuries and was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment. Police registered a case at the Delanga police station, and investigations are underway.

A counter‑complaint has also been filed by the opposing group, indicating a pre‑existing dispute.

The incident has raised serious concerns about security lapses at public cultural events in rural Odisha.

Authorities are expected to review safety measures to prevent such clashes in the future.
