Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 9: Two individuals tragically lost their lives after being struck by the Puri-Howrah Express near the Bahanaga-Dandaharipur railway gate in Balasore. The identities of the deceased have yet to be confirmed.
According to sources, the victims were standing on the railway tracks when the train collided with them. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has initiated an investigation into the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Hemant Sahu from Baripada and Rakesh Padhy from Aruhabada village.
“I had closed the gate. Both of them came on a bike and the pillion rider suddenly came in front of the train. The other person immediately ran to rescue him. However, both of them were badly hit by the train. I don’t know who took their bike,” said railway gatekeeper Niranjan Behera.
“We questioned the gatekeeper about the incident. According to his information, both individuals were severely injured as they suddenly appeared in front of the train. I believe the family members of the deceased may have taken the bike. Based on preliminary investigation, it appears to be a case of suicide.
