Tamil Nadu Gas Leak: Odia Death Toll Reaches 15

The death toll in the Tamil Nadu ammonia gas leak has climbed to 15, following the death of 23‑year‑old Rohini Juang from Rebana village in Kendujhar district, Odisha.

The incident occurred on June 21 at a seafood processing and export unit in Kannigaipair village, Tiruvallur district, where nearly 120 migrant workers from Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand were employed.

Toxic ammonia fumes spread across the unit, causing breathing difficulties, dizziness, and severe eye irritation.

Several workers collapsed and were rushed to hospitals. While many have recovered, four to five remain under treatment.

The tragedy has sparked grief among families and renewed calls for stronger workplace safety measures in industrial units employing migrant labourers.
