Smriti Mandhana Named India Women’s White-Ball Captain, Ushering in a New Era

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Smriti Mandhana as the full-time captain of India’s women’s white-ball cricket teams, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Indian women’s cricket.

One of India’s most accomplished batters, Mandhana has been a cornerstone of the national side since making her international debut in 2013.

The stylish left-hander has consistently delivered match-winning performances and has established herself as one of the most influential figures in women’s cricket.

The leadership role comes after her successful stints as stand-in captain, during which she led India in multiple ODI and T20I matches.

Her captaincy credentials were further strengthened by her success with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League, where she demonstrated strong tactical awareness and leadership qualities.

Reacting to the appointment, Mandhana described the opportunity as a tremendous honour and thanked the BCCI, selectors, coaches, teammates, and fans for their trust and support.

She also acknowledged the contribution of former captain Harmanpreet Kaur, under whose leadership the team achieved several milestones.

BCCI officials expressed confidence in Mandhana’s ability to guide the team forward, citing her experience, consistency, and maturity as key attributes that make her well-suited for the role.

With a blend of experienced players and emerging talent in the squad, India will now look to build on its recent progress under Mandhana’s leadership as the team targets greater success on the global stage.
