Odisha All Set for Nationwide ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ Across 31 Districts
Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: The Union Cabinet on Monday adopted a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years of continuous leadership in government, describing the milestone as a proud moment in India’s democratic history.
State BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal said the resolution is more than a formal tribute.
It recognises a journey guided by the principles of “Nation First” and “Citizen First,” backed by three successive full-majority terms as Gujarat chief minister and three consecutive Lok Sabha victories.
The Cabinet resolution places on record ten defining strands of that record, from his years in Gujarat to the present.
Samal highlighted the SWAGAT public grievance system in Gujarat and the Centre’s PRAGATI platform, which he said helped clear stalled projects.
The Jyotigram power scheme, he added, became a national model. He cited more than 60 crore Jan Dhan accounts, over four crore pucca houses and the lifting of about 25 crore people out of poverty, along with 3.5 crore “Lakhpati Didis,” the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, over ₹4 lakh crore transferred under PM-Kisan, and outreach to vulnerable tribal communities through PM-JANMAN.
He also pointed to the introduction of GST, welfare reforms and the repeal of colonial-era laws as signs of political resolve.
Public capital expenditure, he said, has risen from ₹2 lakh crore to more than ₹12 lakh crore, while electronics output has crossed ₹13 lakh crore.
Defence production, semiconductors, the JAM-UPI digital stack, an indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, Chandrayaan-3 and greater private participation in advanced technology were listed as further markers of self-reliance.
On security and foreign policy, Samal referred to the 2016 surgical strikes, the 2019 Balakot air strike, Operation Sindoor in 2025, the abrogation of Article 370, OROP and the creation of the Chief of Defence Staff post.
He noted consensus-building at the G20 and BRICS, inclusion of the African Union, Vaccine Maitri, and the highest civilian honours received from 36 countries.
Cultural initiatives, from solar expansion and millets to the Kashi Vishwanath Dham and the Ram Lalla consecration, were also mentioned.
The resolution, he said, is also a call to recommit to a prosperous, self-reliant Viksit Bharat by 2047. On October 7, Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabhas will be held at 750 district headquarters.
Modi is expected to interact directly with citizens; in Odisha, the programmes will cover 31 revenue districts and Bhubaneswar, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attending the Khordha event and ministers, MPs and MLAs joining elsewhere.
State spokesperson Sudipta Ray and media coordinator Sujit Das were present at the briefing.
