SJTA Cracks Down on Fake AI Visuals of Lord Jagannath
Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has filed a police complaint against a social media account named vishvrajcreation for circulating AI‑generated images and videos of Lord Jagannath.
The complaint was lodged at the Singhadwar police station after devotees expressed anguish over the fabricated visuals, which they felt misrepresented the deity and violated temple traditions.
According to SJTA officials, the content caused widespread resentment among worshippers and disturbed religious harmony.
One viral video falsely depicted milk being poured over Lord Jagannath using a crane—an act that has no connection with temple rituals.
Researcher Bhaskar Mishra clarified that such visuals were entirely fabricated and misleading.
The SJTA Managing Committee has resolved to amend legal provisions to classify the circulation of fabricated religious visuals as an offence.
Officials emphasised that stricter punishments will be introduced to prevent misuse of technology in matters of faith.
This move underscores the temple administration’s commitment to safeguarding religious sentiments and preserving the sanctity of rituals in the digital age.
