Sambalpur: Worker Electrocuted at Crusher Site, Second Death in Six Days

A tragic accident occurred at a crusher site in Heleli village, Sambalpur, claiming the life of 21‑year‑old worker Soumya Ranjan Naik from Angul district.

While cleaning a pit, Naik accidentally touched a live wire and was electrocuted.

This marks the second fatality at the same site within six days.

Earlier, another worker, Sandeep Sarkar from West Bengal, died after being struck by a stone fragment.

Local officials, including the Redhakhol BDO, visited the site following the incident. Fire service personnel recovered the body and sent it for post‑mortem examination.

Villagers expressed outrage over repeated accidents, demanding Rs 50 lakh compensation, government support for the bereaved family, and permanent closure of the crusher.

After discussions between officials, villagers, and the crusher owner, the unit was temporarily sealed.

Authorities assured financial assistance from both the crusher management and government sources, with further steps to be taken.
