Rairangpur Kasturba Girls’ Hostel Food Poisoning: Headmistress Suspended, 60+ Students Ill
Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj: Panic gripped Saragada Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ High School hostel after more than 60 students fell ill due to suspected food poisoning.
On July 23, nearly 100 students reported sudden sickness, with 19 suffering severe vomiting and diarrhoea.
They were admitted to Rairangpur Sub‑Divisional Hospital, while over 30 others received treatment inside the hostel.
District Education Officer suspended headmistress Hiramani Hembram following the incident.
Food samples have been collected for testing, and the Education Department, Health Department, and local administration have launched investigations into hostel food management practices.
Parents expressed outrage, demanding accountability and improved hygiene standards.
Authorities assured that strict action will follow once investigation reports are finalised.
