Odisha Vigilance Nabs Two Engineers Accepting Rs 60,000 Bribe in Mayurbhanj

Odisha Vigilance officials on Monday caught two engineers of the Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC), Udala Sub-Division, District Mayurbhanj, while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a contractor.

The accused have been identified as Harekrushna Sing, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), and Subrat Mohanty, Junior Engineer (JE), Baripada (in-charge JE, Udala).

According to officials, the duo had agreed to take a total of Rs 1.10 lakh, calculated at 4.5% of the contractor’s pending bills. Sing allegedly demanded 1.5%, while Mohanty sought 3%.

The contractor had executed projects worth Rs 25 lakh, but bills of about Rs 5 lakh were withheld, along with delays in releasing the security deposit.

Faced with harassment, the contractor approached Vigilance authorities, leading to a trap operation. During the raid, officers recovered the entire tainted bribe money of Rs 60,000 from the possession of the accused.

Simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Sing and three locations linked to Mohanty to investigate disproportionate assets.

Following the operation, Balasore Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 1/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 against the duo.

This case highlights Odisha Vigilance’s continued crackdown on corruption in government departments, reinforcing accountability and transparency in public service.
