Odisha Vigilance Arrests Koraput Deputy Director of Mines in Bribery Case

Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Satyajit Rout, Deputy Director (Geology)-cum-Deputy Director of Mines, Jeypore, Koraput, after he was caught red‑handed accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe from a leaseholder.

The bribe was allegedly taken to extend lease tenure and secure benefits in sand source auctions.

During the trap, the full bribe amount was recovered. Subsequent raids at Rout’s residences in Jeypore, Cuttack (Bidyadharpur), and Mahanga (Olakana) led to the seizure of an additional Rs 2.90 lakh, bringing the total recovery to Rs 4.90 lakh.

A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Investigators are now examining Rout’s assets and financial records to determine disproportionate holdings.

This arrest underscores Odisha Vigilance’s intensified crackdown on corruption in the mining and geology departments, aiming to ensure transparency in resource management.
