Odisha Set for Heavy Rains: IMD Issues Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a prolonged spell of heavy rainfall across Odisha beginning August 24, lasting for five days.

The weather activity is attributed to two active cyclonic circulations—one over north Odisha, south Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand, and another over the Bay of Bengal near Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.

On Saturday, light to moderate showers are expected in 21 districts, while heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm may lash Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi.

A yellow warning has been issued for 17 districts, cautioning residents about thunderstorms and lightning.

Authorities have advised people to remain alert as waterlogging and flood‑like conditions may occur in vulnerable areas.

The IMD has urged residents to follow safety advisories and prepare for possible disruptions.
