Odisha Police Duty Meet Concludes in Cuttack, Focus on Cybercrime & Drug Trafficking

The 71st Odisha State Police Duty Meet concluded at the Reserve Police Ground in Buxi Bazar, Cuttack, with a strong emphasis on strengthening the state’s capacity to combat cybercrime, financial fraud, organised crime, and drug trafficking.

Odisha Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, who attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest, inspected the parade and distributed awards to outstanding participants.

He emphasised that such professional competitions help enhance efficiency, confidence, and morale among police personnel while preparing them to tackle emerging criminal challenges.

The minister highlighted the growing threat posed by cybercrime, financial fraud, organised criminal networks, and drug trafficking, stressing the need for modern technology, technical expertise, and continuous skill development within the police force.

Addressing the gathering, Odisha Director General of Police Vinaytosh Mishra said that the Duty Meet plays a critical role in improving investigation standards through the adoption of forensic science, scientific investigation techniques, and modern technological tools.

He noted that these capabilities help law enforcement agencies identify offenders more effectively and improve conviction rates.

A total of 319 police personnel, ranging from constables to inspectors, participated in the event, representing various districts and police establishments across the state.

Competitions were held in disciplines such as forensic science, forensic medicine and toxicology, fingerprint analysis, photography, computer awareness, cybercrime investigation, technical surveillance, criminal law, and crime scene management.

Officials said the top performers will represent Odisha Police at the forthcoming All India Police Duty Meet.

The DGP also underlined the importance of specialised training in sensitive cases involving women and children under the POCSO Act and announced continued efforts by the Crime Branch to expand advanced training programmes.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Sarthak Sarangi, Inspector General of Police (Crime Branch), in the presence of senior serving and retired police officers.
