Odisha Launches Free KG‑to‑PG Education Under Gyanodaya Scheme

The Odisha government has unveiled a landmark initiative, Gyanodaya – Shikshya Ru Samruddhi, offering free education from Kindergarten to Postgraduate level across government and aided institutions.

Starting from the 2026–27 academic session, admission fees will be waived in Government, Fully Aided, and Newly Aided Secondary Schools, as well as Higher Secondary Schools under categories 488 and 662.

The directive, issued by Dr N. Thirumala Naik, IAS, Commissioner‑cum‑Secretary of the School & Mass Education Department, instructs schools to ensure zero collection of admission fees until detailed operational guidelines are released.

Updates are being made to the Student Academic Management System (SAMS) portal to reflect the changes.

Officials believe the scheme will remove financial barriers for families, boost enrollment, reduce dropout rates, and promote inclusive access to education.

Parents and education experts have hailed the move as a game‑changer, aligning with Odisha’s vision of building a knowledge‑driven, prosperous society.
