Odisha Higher Education Institutions Directed to Observe ‘Sanskruta Saptaha’

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Higher Education Department has issued a directive to all universities and colleges across the state to observe Sanskruta Saptaha (Sanskrit Week) from August 25 to 31, 2026.

The initiative, led by Director of Higher Education Kaliprasanna Mohapatra, aims to promote and preserve the rich heritage of the Sanskrit language.

Institutions have been asked to organise a variety of activities, including essay writing, debates, quizzes, recitations, elocution, and translation competitions.

Other suggested programmes include exhibitions of manuscripts and inscriptions, awareness rallies, screenings of documentaries, and cultural performances.

Colleges are also encouraged to display Sanskrit quotations at their entrances under the Sanskrit at the Entrance initiative.

Institutions must publicise the observance through notice boards, websites, and communication channels, while maintaining records of activities with photographs and details.

Expenses will be covered from institutional funds.

The department emphasised that active participation of students, faculty, and academic communities is essential to make the observance meaningful and impactful.
