Odisha Health Department rolls out dengue prevention strategy

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 9: The Odisha government has launched an extensive surveillance program to combat the spread of dengue across the state.

According to reports, the Health Department has instructed District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to identify areas with high incidences of dengue over the past five years. They are tasked with conducting thorough surveys and mapping to contain the disease.

State Health Secretary Shalini Pandit has directed immediate action from all District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to initiate survey and mapping activities. The objective is to pinpoint dengue hotspots and implement preventive measures to curb its transmission.

Given the onset of monsoon and subsequent outbreaks of dengue and malaria, the department has urged district administrations to maintain vigilance. They are instructed to take necessary measures, review volunteer availability, ensure adequate diagnostic kits, and stock medicines to manage the situation effectively.

Additionally, officials are mandated to prioritize timely testing, effective treatment, and swift referrals to advanced healthcare facilities as needed. District and block-level Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have been instructed to remain on standby for handling emergencies.

The directive emphasizes the establishment of dedicated dengue wards in hospitals and ensuring they are free from mosquito breeding. District Collectors are also mandated to observe weekly ‘Dry Day’ initiatives to suppress the spread of dengue cases throughout the state.
