Odisha Govt Slashes PUCC Fine to ₹6,000
The Odisha Government has revised the penalty structure for Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) violations, reducing the maximum fine from Rs 10,000 to Rs 6,000.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena stated that the decision was taken after receiving widespread public feedback on the steep fines introduced in 2019.
Under the new rules, fines will vary by vehicle type:
- Motorcycles & three‑wheelers: Rs 1,000 (first offence), Rs 2,000 (repeat).
- Cars, jeeps, tractors, trailers: Rs 2,000 (first offence), Rs 5,000 (repeat).
- Other vehicles: Rs 3,000 (first offence), Rs 6,000 (repeat).
While penalties have been reduced, enforcement will remain strict. Vehicles must carry valid PUCC and insurance documents.
Additionally, vehicles with unpaid e‑challans older than 90 days will not be eligible for PUCC renewal.
Minister Jena emphasised that the move balances citizen concerns with the need to uphold road safety and pollution control norms.
