Hirakud Dam Opens Two Gates as Re servoir Level Surges Past 625 Feet
Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened two sluice gates after the reservoir level rose to 625.91 feet, raising concerns over flood management in Odisha.
According to official data, the dam is currently receiving an inflow of 2,19,651 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 67,175 cusecs.
The discharge includes 32,242 cusecs via the spillway, 31,992 cusecs through the power channel, 229 cusecs for industrial use, and 2,712 cusecs into the canal system.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation as heavy inflows continue, balancing water release to minimise flood risks downstream.
The rising water level comes amid broader flood alerts across Odisha, where several rivers have crossed danger marks and schools in affected districts have been shut as a precaution.
