Odisha Flood Crisis: Subarnarekha & Baitarani Rivers Breach Danger Mark, Villages Submerged

Heavy rainfall and water release from Jharkhand’s Galudih barrage have pushed the Subarnarekha River above its danger mark, triggering the third flood of the season in Odisha.

At Rajghat, water levels rose to 11.54 metres, surpassing the danger threshold of 10.36 metres.

Villages in Baliapal, Jaleswar, and Bhograi blocks are inundated, with floodwaters reaching up to five feet, cutting off roads and isolating communities.

The Baitarani River has also breached embankments in Jajpur, washing away roads and worsening the crisis.

Residents face severe disruption to daily life, with communication and access to essentials crippled.

Disaster response teams are deployed, but officials warn that earlier floodwaters have not fully receded, compounding the situation.

Meanwhile, relief has come to Mayurbhanj district as Budhabalanga river levels receded, allowing displaced families to return home.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging vigilance across affected regions.
